Recovery Systems Engineer (Parachutes & Descent Architecture)

The Mission

A successful launch is only half the mission; bringing the vehicle back safely is the ultimate test. As our Hermes suborbital vehicle falls back to Earth, we need a dedicated engineer to command its safe return.

IMF Rockets is an early-stage deep-tech startup. This is a high-autonomy, experience-building role designed strictly for builders who want to shape the future of accessible spaceflight by taking real flight hardware from the ground up.

Your Ownership

  • Descent Architecture: Design, simulate, and integrate the complete dual-deployment parachute system (drogue and main chutes).
  • Ejection Mechanics: Manage the structural loads, ejection kinetics, and thermal protection for the recovery bay.
  • Hardware Prototyping & Integration: Transition from MATLAB/Simulink descent trajectories directly into physical lab testing, working closely with avionics to trigger ejection events flawlessly via live telemetry.

The Profile

  • Student or recent graduate in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, based in Turin and able to work physically in our lab.
  • Proficient with 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks/Fusion 360) and comfortable with basic mathematical modeling (MATLAB).
  • You are a hands-on builder. You understand that every failure on the test stand is simply data for the next success. You value grit, safety, and physical iteration over textbook problems.
